Best Places to buy electronics in Singapore

Singapore is famous for electronics and it is often considered as hub of technology. If you watch T.V in Singapore, you will find a lot of deals on the latest phones, laptop, and tablets. The Great Singapore sale from May through July attracts many visitors from across the globe because of unbelievable discount on electronic products.

But find out whether Singapore stands to its reputation for a paradise for gadget lovers or not. Below are some recommended spots that might be helpful for everyone who want to buy gadgets from Singapore:

  •  Mustafa Center:

Mustafa Center Singapore

Mustafa Center is one of the most popular malls of Singapore. It is open 24/7 which makes it an ideal one stop destination for gadget lovers. The best thing about Mustafa center is that you will not need to bargain, as their price undercuts most in Singapore.   It sells a range of stuff, from electronics to clothes to toiletries pretty cheaply. Sim Lim Square and Mustafa’s are within walking distance of each other. For electronics, the salesmen work professionally and don’t mind removing the packaging so you can inspect the product. If you don’t like what you see, it’s fine to say thanks and then just walk away.

Advice:  Check the prices in your own country or internet before buying anything.

Best Thing: Open 24 hours and seven days a week

Location: 145 Syed Alwi Rd, Singapore 207704

  • Funan Digital Life Mall

Funan Digitalife mall

Singapore Funan Digital Life Mall is known for cheap cameras and other gadgets/electronics. This is the place where you’ll see lots of them.  This place is totally heaven for anybody looking for anything technology related, especially laptops. You can haggle and pit each store against each other. After buying, you can claim your tax refund right there in the Mall, don’t have to go to the airport. It is one of the most reliable places to buy electronics in Singapore.

Best Thing: After buying, you can claim your tax refund right there in the Mall, you don’t have to go to the airport.

Location: Located at 109 North Bridge Road.

Opening Hours: 10:00am – 10:00pm

  • Sim Lim Square

Sim Lim Square

Sim Lim Square is shopping mall which mainly famous for computer parts and laptops. But at this mall you need to be careful for buying anything because the prices sales person quotes is almost the double of the actual price. You will definitely need to bargain with them otherwise their prices are rip-offs. Sim Lim square is your typical computer market place (more like a fish market).

Location:  (1 Rochor Canal Road, tel +65 6338 3859)

Opening Hours : 9.30am – 8.30pm

Advice: Do research the price before purchasing anything from Sim Lim Square. Even locals haven’t fully learnt this lesson; tourists don’t stand a chance.

  • Lucky Plaza:

Lucky Plaza

Lucky Plaza is another mall which is famous for electronics and it is often touted as more reliable than Sim Lim Square.  It’s basically known for sportswear, camera equipment, watches, and luggage. If you buy electronics, please make sure you get an international warranty with your purchase. This shopping mall consists of 500 retail shops. Lucky Plaza sales persons usually try to con you by selling goods multiple times their original price and you can find many incidents. For example search this on Google “Businessman charged $12,000 for two iPhone 5 handsets“. You will find some of sales people tactics which they use to fool tourists.

Location: G77. 304 Orchard Road #01-77

Opening Hours : 9.30am – 8.30pm

                     Important Advice:

  •  Bid 60 to 70 percent lower than the shopkeeper’s initial offer, negotiate, and only settle at what sounds like a realistic price.
  • Don’t be fooled by the so called “nice, friendly” sales people!

Many retailers are able to offer a good deal on laptops. However, always bargain and ask them to add accessories. If the salesman isn’t agreeable, walk away, there is a good chance that they’ll call you back with a better offer.
Singapore is certainly not the only best place to buy gadgets as price in other countries like Australia, US and India are also very competitive. Although in sale period you can find some jaw dropping deals but also beware of scams associated with it. From the above mentioned malls, Mustafa center and Funcan Digitalife malls are more reliable for purchasing electronics. Please do remember always do price research, stick to your guns, and read about all the scam tactics, and you’ll save yourself a lot of heartache.
